I am a Grandparent

Is your son or daughter going through separation? Are your grand-kids suffering because of the fall out? Do you wonder what you can do to help, or do you feel youʼre being told to stop trying? Has this battle been waging for so long, youʼve lost hope for it to ever get better? Are you left picking up the pieces of raising the grandchildren because the parents are not coping?

Grandparents are often overlooked, not fully appreciated as being a part of the hurting family when a son or daughter go through separation, divorce or some form of breakdown.Granddad and grandsonWe all recognise the pain it causes our own child and of course, the grandchildren, but grandparents, where do we fit? How can we help when we usually only have one side of the story? As a result, sometimes we cannot understand why the break-up ever happened, other times it seemed inevitable, but either way, the only part that truly matters is what is the best path forward now - for us, our son or daughter, and our grandchildren.

Often we have heard many stories of others who have walked this road, and it can sometimes feel very overwhelming. Most of us are concerned about making things worse when our best intention is to help. We know the world has changed so much now days and is continuing to do so, so to keep up with what is best sometimes is just too difficult. To be reassured of what is ahead, normal expectations and some helpful pointers along the way, where do we turn?

You can confidently turn to the Complex Family Foundation. We value the grandparent relationship highly because, when done appropriately, the advantages of stability, perspective and support grandparents can provide in such difficult circumstances can be the difference between the new Family successfully working through their challenges, or falling apart.
