What is a Complex Family and where did this term come from?
The Complex Family is a family touched by separation, divorce or some form of family breakdown. Complex families are normal, growing in numbers and are often given labels which are counter-productive for positivity with our children. The terms 'broken home' or 'split family' dis-empowers our families and places a grey cloud of 'lack' from the beginning. The term Complex Family has come from our founder, Jill Darcey, who sort a fresh and positive way to label an ever-increasing portion of our population.
TopIs it really different raising kids in a Complex Family?
In short, yes. The sameness comes in the parent's natural desire to give the best to their children. The children, irrespective of environments, move through the same phases of development. The tension between teens and parents desires are still tangible. The good and the not-so-good times are going to be inside every family. The differences are based around traditional techniques and routines which are very difficult to work with raising children inside a Complex Family. The emotional triggers that are substantial for parents to deal with inside a Complex Family are not part of the traditional family. Most seminars, books and resource material deal with the traditional family model and there is little material available for our ever increasing new 'normal' family - the Complex Family.
TopThere are plenty of negatives out there about parental failure and the stats back it because we've been divorced - can you help?
This is one of the key drivers inside Complex Family Foundation. We want to assist people like you to move from the concept of being 'broken' or 'split' into embracing a larger and more whole family living. It may seem far-out but it works and although we benefit personally as parents, the children (regardless of ages and stages) benefit the most. While we deal with the very real emotions which parents feel, we constructively work to grow from these times in our lives.
